IPL 2021: Orange cap holder Shikhar Dhawan says having Shreyas Iyer back makes Delhi Capitals even stronger

Delhi Capitals’ in-form batsman, Shikhar Dhawan, is currently the Orange Cap holder with 380 runs under his belt from 8 matches he played for the Delhi franchise in the 2021 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The 35-year-old stylish opener would like to extend his success in the remainder of the showpiece event with 6 league matches yet to be played in the UAE leg of the elite T20 tournament.

Ahead of the resumption of the IPL in the Middle East, Dhawan expressed himself by saying: “It’s great to be back. There’s a great environment within the team. All the boys are working very hard and I am looking forward to the IPL season. I am very excited to play the upcoming matches.”

Dhawan has scored 3 fifties in the IPL 2021 season so far and has batted like a dream for a star-studded Delhi Capitals team alongside young guns Prithvi Shaw and skipper Rishabh Pant, who have been among the majority of DC’s runs themselves. He believes that it’s important for the talented young side to start performing well from the first match itself.

“It’s very important to start on a high note. We need to do well from the first match itself and therefore, we are working very hard for our first match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. We have to bring our hard work into effect during matches and produce great results.”

With a blazing hot batting lineup that runs deep down to their lower order till Rabada, a much-welcomed return post-surgery of their talismanic figure, Shreyas Iyer, back in the Delhi dressing room, Dhawan added by saying that Iyers coming back only makes DC an even stronger side ahead of the second phase of IPL 2021 in the UAE.

“We were in a certain flow in the first half of the season and then that flow was broken once the tournament was suspended. So we have to rebuild our energy and get back on the flow we were in. The good thing is that our team is well balanced and Shreyas Iyer is back in the side as well, so our team is even stronger now,” said Dhawan.

Dhawan & Co. will be led by wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant in their opening clash against Kane Williamson’s Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on September 22 in Dubai International Stadium.
