Arvind Kejriwal once again elected as Aam Aadmi Party National Convenor for third consecutive term

In a big boost for the party’s prospects in the upcoming Assembly elections, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was on Sunday yet again unanimously elected as the Aam Aadmi Party’s National Convenor for the third consecutive term.

Kejriwal’s name was approved as the party supremo during the National Executive meeting of the party held today.

He was elected as the National Convenor of AAP for the second time in April 2016. During his second term, he served for 3 years. But due to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections, Kejriwal’s tenure was extended till 2020.

However, due to COVID-19 outbreak in 2020, the meeting of the National Council of the party could not be held.

This year in January, when the National Council did meet, the party’s constitution was amended, as per which the tenure of the National Convenor was increased from 3 years to 5 years. The amendment also abolished the compulsion to appoint the National Convenor for only up to two terms.

The 34 members of the AAP National Executive have the power to elect the National Convenor of the party.

Aam Aadmi Party’s National Council held a meeting on September 11, during which the National Executive approved the Delhi CM’s candidature as the party’s national convenor.

Kejriwal will be the National Convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party for the next 5 years.

The party’s National Secretary and the National Treasurer were also elected at the meeting. While Pankaj Gupta was re-elected as the National Secretary, ND Gupta was re-elected as the National Treasurer.
