Former South African skipper and batting maestro AB de Villiers was one of the first cricketers to congratulate Virat Kohli-led Team India after the visitors registered a thrilling win over hosts England in the 4th Test match of the five-match series at The Oval. De Villiers, who will be next seen in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) leg of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021, shares a good camaraderie with Team India skipper Kohli.
Taking to Twitter on Monday, De Villiers not only congratulated his captain at Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) but the talismanic batsman also praised the Joe Root-led England side as both teams played out an epic contest at the Oval. In his special post, the RCB icon lauded Team India and England for promoting the longest and oldest format of the game at the highest level.
The Proteas icon explained why some of the fans and followers of the gentlemen’s game are missing out on a good game of cricket. “As “spectators” of Test Cricket, just stop worrying about team selection and other nonsense and start appreciating the competition, passion, skill and patriotism unfolding in front of your eyes. You’re missing a good game!,” de Villiers said in his tweet.
Nicknamed ABD or Mr 360, the former South African skipper also expressed his excitement about the upcoming Manchester encounter between India and England. “Well played India, well Captained @imVkohli and amazing skill and guts from a few individuals. Also well played @root66 & England! Great ad for our beautiful game! Excited for the finale,” he added.
Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja sparked a shocking England collapse on Day 5 of the 4th Test to help India outclass England at The Oval. Indian opener Rohit Sharma scored a match-winning century while Shardul Thakur smashed twin half-centuries in each innings to make sure India thrash England by 157 runs. Kohli-led Team India will hope to take a 3-1 lead over England when the Asia giants lock horns with the Root-led in the 5th and final Test of the series at Old Trafford.
