Popular Tamil filmmaker Vetrimaaran is celebrating his 46th birthday on Saturday, September 4. Vetrimaaran has always been generous about his accomplishments since his debut film Polladhavan (2007).
Hailing from auteur late Bala Mahendra’s school of filmmaking, Vetrimaaran turned out to be one of the very few filmmakers in today’s Tamil Film Industry.
As Vetri has turned a year wiser today, social media is filled with wishes from his fans as well as celebrities. On his special day, let us take a look at five of his best creations.
Polladhavan
Vetrimaaran made his directorial debut with Dhanush-starrer Polladhavan, which was released in 2007. Divya Spandana in lead roles opposite Dhanush. For the first time, Dhanush and director Vetri joined hands it was never expected to become a combo of this level. Polladhavan was a big hit in the box office with collecting 17 crores, also giving a start to Vetri’s film career.
Aadukalam
Following the success of Polladhavan, Vetrimaaran second time joined hands with Dhanush for Aadukalam in 2011. Dhanush played the role of a Madurai based cockfighter. The film went on to become one of the landmark films in Tamil cinema. Aadukalam went on to win six awards at the 58th National Film Awards, including Best Director and Best Actor for Vetrimaaran and Dhanush, respectively.
Visaranai
Visaranai is a crime thriller film which was released in 2015. The movie was both written and directed by Vetrimaaran. It is based on the novel Lock Up by M. Chandrakumar. Visaranai features Dinesh, Anandhi, Samuthirakani, Aadukalam Murugadoss, Kishore, Pradheesh Raj, and Silambarasan Rathnasamy in pivotal roles.
Vada Chennai
Vetri and Dhanush joined after a gap of several years for the gangster drama Vada Chennai. The film opened up to a massive response among Tamil audience and created a cult fan base. Vada Chennai turned out to be the milestone film in both Dhanush and Vetri Maaran’s career. It was produced by Dhanush’s home banner Wunderbar Studios and Santhosh Narayanan’s music delivered the sounds that elevated the gangster genre of the film.
Asuran
Asuran was one of the best directed films of Vetrimaaran’s cinema career. The movie was produced by Kalaipuli S. Thanu. The film is an adaptation of Poomani’s novel Vekkai. Dhanush and Manji Warrier played the lead roles. Dhanush also received the Best Actor Honour at the 67th National Film Awards for his unforgettable performance in Asuran.
