After bidding farewell to Serie A giants Juventus prior to the end of what has been a memorable transfer season, goal machine Cristiano Ronaldo marked his sensational return to Manchester United on Tuesday. Regarded as one of the greatest footballers of his generation, Ronaldo penned an emotional note dedicated to former Man United manager and club legend Sir Alex Ferguson on social media.

Taking to Instagram after Manchester United officially announced Ronaldo’s return to Old Trafford, the Portugal captain spoke at length about his homecoming and the veteran striker also gave a special mention to the legendary United head coach. “Everyone who knows me, knows about my never ending love for Manchester United. The years I spent in this club where absolutely amazing and the path we’ve made together is written in gold letters in the history of this great and amazing institution,” Ronaldo said.

Ronaldo has shared the moving post after Manchester United officially completed the signing of the 36-year-old from Juventus on Tuesday. The former Real Madrid superstar has joined re-signed for Man United for a fee that can likely rise to 23 million euros ($27 million). Ronaldo had joined La Liga giants Real Madrid from Man United in 2009 for a then world-record transfer fee.

Ronaldo had spent six years at United between 2003 and 2009 before the Portugal captain joined forces with Real Madrid. One of the most decorated footballers in the modern era of world football, Ronaldo had netted 118 goals from 292 games during his debut stint at Old Trafford.

Ronaldo also claimed his first Ballon d’Or and UEFA Champions League title with the Red Devils. Nicknamed CR7, the 36-year-old guided Man United to three Premier League titles, one FA Cup, and two League Cups. “Manchester United is a club that has always had a special place in my heart, and I have been overwhelmed by all the messages I have received since the announcement on Friday. I cannot wait to play at Old Trafford in front of a full stadium and see all the fans again,” Ronaldo said in a statement.
