A day after India administered a record one crore vaccine doses, Dr. Naveet Wig, HOD, Medical Department, AIIMS called it an important feat and said that India won’t be COVID-19 free until and unless everyone is vaccinated.
“It’s an important feat and I think more vaccinations will be done in coming times. The country needs to be vaccinated,” he added.
Telling people to not lower their guards, Dr Wig urged everyone to wear masks and get vaccinated to beat COVID-19.
He further said that vaccine research has to continue so we can come up with better and smarter solutions.
“Our aim is to make this country COVID-free. We’ll be able to do it by wearing masks and giving vaccines to everybody,” he added.

Taking to Twitter, PM Modi said, “Record vaccination numbers today! Crossing 1 crore is a momentous feat. Kudos to those getting vaccinated and those making the vaccination drive a success.”
Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya termed the achievement as “historic” and congratulated the citizens of the country.
To combat COVID-19, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) today announced that coronavirus containment measures will remain in force across the country till September 30, 2021.
This comes after the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), warned of a third COVID-19 wave peak in October in its recent report to Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
Meanwhile, India reported 46,759 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the country’s tally to 3,26,49,947, informed the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Saturday.
Kerala continues to report a record number of cases and logged 32,801 fresh infections and 179 deaths on Friday.
Alarmed with rising COVID-19 cases, the Centre has suggested targeted testing in containment zones and genomic surveillance to the state government.
