Anil Deshmukh case: ‘Maharashtra govt not co-operating, Mumbai ACP threatening CBI officer’

The Central Bureau of Investigation has approached the Bombay High Court with the complaint that the Maharashtra government is not co-operating with the central agency in investigating the Anil Deshmukh case despite clear orders from the HC.

The CBI through the ASG alleged in the court that instead of co-operating, a Mumbai ACP is threatening CBI officer probing this case.

The court has issued a notice to the Mahrashtra government and posted the matter for hearing on August 11.

The High Court issued the notice after the CBI sought a direction to the state to provide documents requited for the probe against the former state home minister.

CBI counsel Anil Singh informed the division bench of Justices SS Shinde and NJ Jamadar that the state was not cooperating with the investigation.

The court then directed public prosecutor Aruna Kamat Pai to respond to the allegations.

“We are issuing notice to the government. Some ACP is threatening the CBI officers. Find out what the situation is. Please do not create an unfair situation that we have to take them (police) to task,” the bench said.

The court, meanwhile, also directed the CBI to add additional chief secretary (Home) of Maharashtra as a respondent to the application.

“Please ensure that the directions given by this court and the order passed earlier are followed in letter and spirit,” the HC told the state government.

The CBI had in its application said that it had written to the State Intelligence Department seeking details of a communication sent by senior IPS officer Rashmi Shukla on the issue of corruption in police transfers and postings, but the SID refused to provide any document.
