Ace Indian shuttler PV Sindhu lost the women’s singles semi-final against Tai Tzu Ying at Tokyo Olympics 2020. Sindhu, who entered the semi-final without having lost a game in Tokyo, was put under pressure as Ying won the opening game 21-18. At half time break in the opening game, Sindhu had an 11-8 lead but Ying fought back to seal the game.
In the second game, Tai Tzu looked more aggressive as she took an 11-7 lead at the mid-game break and didn’t look back and went on to win the game 21-12.
Going into the semi-final match, Tai Tzu held a 13-5 head-to-head lead over Sindhu – who is the reigning world champion. While Sindhu has a silver medal to her name, Tai Tzu, playing in her third Olympics, has also assured herself of a maiden Olympic medal by reaching the final of women’s singles.
Sindhu will now take on Hing Jao of China in the Bronze medal match on Sunday.
