Filmmaker Priyadarshan and superstar Mohanlal are considered as the hit machine of Malayalam film industry. Their comedy hits are still appreciated and loved by Malayalam cinema lovers. The duo have done 29 Malayalam films together so far.
Now, Mohanlal is all set to reunite with good friend Priyadarshan for a sports drama in which he will play the role of a boxing champion.
As per a Bollywood Hungama report,”It is the story of a boxer, his rise to fame and then his fall. Mohanlal and I have done all kinds of films together. But we’ve never done a sports film. I’ve always been fascinated by Scorsese’s Raging Bull. So you could say this would be our Raging Bull. For the role Mohanlal would have to lose at least 15 kilos” revealed Priyadarshan.
Mohanlal, for the unaware, is trained in wrestling and even went on to win the Kerala State Wrestling championship in 1977 and 1978. Fans of the actor are undoubtedly delighted and looking forward to seeing him portray the role with as much conviction as he has done in all the roles that he has played so far.
Earlier, the director-actor have together given par-excellent films to Malayalam cinema such as Poochakkoru Mookkuthi (1984), Boeing Boeing (1985), Mazha Peyyunnu Maddalam Kottunnu (1986), Chithram (1988), Akkare Akkare Akkare (1990), Killukam (1991) Minnaram (1994) to name a few.
The director-actor duo joined hands for an action epic multi-crore film Marakkar Arabikadalinte Simham, which is expected to release theatres on August 12 on the occasion of Onam. Marakkar is a historical war drama set in the 16th century. The film was originally scheduled to release on May 13, 2021. But, the film’s release was deferred due to the second wave of the novel coronavirus pandemic.
Meanwhile, Mohanlal recently wrapped up with the shooting of Aaraattu, directed by B Unnikrishnan. He will be essaying the role of Neyyattinkara Gopan in this action entertainer. Aaraattu teaser was released on the occasion of Malayalam New Year ‘Vishu’. Shraddha Srinath will be seen as the lead actress.
The 61-year-old superstar has also part of a films Ram and Barroz: Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure. The multi-talented actor was last seen in Drishyam 2 released on a popular OTT platform in February 2021. Directed by Jeethu Joseph, the film went on to become a huge success.
