West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee to visit Delhi on July 25, will meet PM Modi and opposition leaders

After sounding the bugle for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will visit New Delhi on July 25. The CM is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Ram Nath Kovind.

“I will go to Delhi for 2-3 days. I will meet the President if I get time. PM has given me time. I will meet him,” she said.

This will be the first meeting between the PM and Mamata after the bitterly contested West Bengal polls.

The Trinamool Congress chief will also meet opposition leaders during her stay in the national capital.

Addressing a press conference today, the CM launched a scathing attack on the Union government saying that a state of super-emergency has been imposed and alleged that all impartial institutions are politicised.

She also condemned the Income Tax raids against media group Dainik Bhaskar for alleged tax evasion, calling it a “brutal attempt” to stifle democracy and suppress voices that bring out the truth.

She claimed that the raids were the fallout of reporting about the “mishandling” of the COVID-19 situation in the country.

“The attack on journalists and media houses is yet another BRUTAL attempt to stifle democracy. #DainikBhaskar bravely reported the way @narendramodi ji mishandled the entire #COVID crisis and led the country to its most horrifying days amid a raging pandemic,” she tweeted.

Mamata Banerjee during her virtual Martyrs Day speech on Wednesday had launched an all-out attack against the saffron party indicating that Trinamool is ready to play an important role in national politics.

She further urged all the political parties to forget their narrow self-interests and unite on a single platform.

‘Khela’ will happen in all states until BJP is removed from the country, she said.

“We’ll celebrate ‘Khela Diwas’ on August 16. We will give footballs to poor children. Today, our freedom is at stake. BJP has endangered our liberty. They don’t trust their own ministers and misuse agencies,” she added.
