IT services major Wipro is likely to bring employees gradually back to office from September as vaccination gains pace, depending on the pandemic and third wave, said Saurabh Govil, chief human resources officer, Wipro.

This development comes at a time when the company has vaccinated close to 35,000 employees in its campuses. Chairman Rishad Premji during the company’s 75th annual general meeting on July 14, said that close to 55 percent of the employees in India have been vaccinated. However, he did not specify if they are first doses or both.

Speaking after the announcement of the company’s first-quarter results, Govil said, that this will vary between countries and different stages of the coronavirus pandemic. This will not be one size fits all.

The company has 2 lakh employees currently.

Even its Indian peers, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Infosys may be rethinking their work-from-home strategy now that most of the employees have been jabbed at least once.

TCS said as of last week 70% of its over half a million employees have been vaccinated and it hopes to vaccinate all of its employees by September.

And, Infosys said 59% of its employees respectively have reportedly inoculated with at least one dose.

Pravin Rao, Chief Operating Officer, Infosys during a press conference said, so far 230,000 doses which covered 120,000 employees and their depends and family members. This translates into 59% receiving at least the first dose and rest receiving at least 1 dose while 10% got both the doses.
