Veteran West Indies batsman Chris Gayle played a record-breaking knock in the third T20I against Australia on Tuesday. Gayle became the first-ever batsman to reach the milestone of 14,000 runs in T20 cricket. The explosive left-hander remains one of the most destructive batsmen in the shortest format of the game.
Gayle gave a hilarious interview post his record-breaking knock where he challenged none other than the International Cricket Council (ICC) on who is the ‘real boss’ in world cricket. Gayle said he is ‘technically’ the boss of world cricket and not the ICC. Gayle’s interview has since gone viral on social media.
Gayle who is famously known as the ‘Universe Boss’ among the fans and followers of the game, had a sticker on his bat which read ‘The Boss’. Explaining the reason behind not using the word ‘Universe’ on the sticker, Gayle said ICC has advised him to not use the term ‘Universe Boss’ so he is happy with only ‘The Boss’ as of now.
“It’s just the boss… You know it’s the Universe Boss but the ICC don’t want me to use the Universe Boss so I’ve shortened it just put ‘The Boss’. I am the boss,” Gayle said in the post-match interview.
West Indies registered their third straight win against Australia in the ongoing T20I series as the hosts rode on Gayle’s 38-ball 67 to thrash the Aaron Finch-led side by six wickets. Gayle’s brilliant knock was laced with seven sixes and 4 fours. He became the first in the world to breach the 14,000-mark in T20s
When asked if ICC was the real boss of world cricket, Gayle came up with a cheeky reply in the interview and said technically, he is the real boss.
“Yeah yeah. Well, I’ll have to copyright it,” Gayle said. The reporter then asked, “ICC are technically the boss of cricket, right?” “No no, I am, not the ICC. I am technically the boss,” Gayle replied.
With two more T20Is remaining in the five-match series, West Indies will be hoping to whitewash the Aussies in the shortest format before taking them on in the ODI series.
