Simple energy trademarks name ‘Simple One’ for their EV scooter, to launch on August 15

Bengaluru based EV startup, Simple Energy has trademarked their upcoming scooter’s name as the ‘Simple One.’ It’s quite a punny name especially playing on the name of the manufacturer. Simple Energy’s first electric scooter will launch on August 15, India’s Independence Day, and it promises to offer a higher range than any existing EV scooter in the market right now.

The Simple One will offer two modes of driving modes, Eco and Sports. As the name suggests, Eco or economical mode promises a range of 240 km on a single charge while the Sport model has a lower range but a better throttle response. In comparison to the upcoming scooter’s range, one of the most popular scooter options in India, the Honda Activa 6th Generation which has a fuel tank of 5.3 litres and a claimed average of 60 kilometres per litre but a real-life average closer to 50 kilometres per litre will run out of juice in 265 kilometres.

So, an EV that can give anything close to 250 kilometres range on a single charge is more than adequate for city usage or for those who are going to use it for office commutes or to go to the shops.

The direct competition to the Simple One is the Ather 450X which has a rated average of 116 kilometres per single charge and a smaller battery will feel the heat once detailed reviews on text and video are released for the Simple One. The flagship scooter for the company was earlier codenamed Mark II, being inspired from the Iron Man movies but they decided to go a different way. Although official figures aren’t out yet, it is estimated that the scooter will be priced between Rs 1.1 lakhs to Rs 1.2 lakhs.
