Chandigarh: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday promised free electricity units, waiving of pending bills and 24-hour power in Punjab, if his party is elected in the next year’s Assembly elections in the state.
During his visit to the state, Arvind Kejriwal addressed a press conference in Chandigarh and made three promises to the people of Punjab.
The Delhi Chief Minister said, “When we fought polls for the first time in Delhi in 2013, people used to get absurd electricity bills. The govt was colluding with electricity companies, just like Punjab. Today there’s 24-hour electricity in Delhi at a very low rate. We have to do this in Punjab.”
He went on to say, “We will do 3 major works here. First, we will provide 300 units of free electricity to every family. Second, all pending domestic electricity bills will be waived off and connections of people will be restored. Third, 24 hours electricity will be provided.”
Earlier in the day, Kejriwal confirmed that he will visit the poll-bound state of Punjab today. Taking to his official Twitter handle, Kejriwal said, “Punjab is getting ready for a new dawn and so am I to reach Punjab. See you in few hours.”
The Delhi CM was expected to meet party leaders and workers in Punjab today and discuss the next course of action for the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections 2022.
Kejriwal’s visit to Punjab has come a day after the Aam Aadmi Party accused the Congress-led government in the state of denying its national convener Arvind Kejriwal permission to hold a press conference in the state, a charge denied by Chief Minister Amarinder Singh.
The 2022 Punjab Assembly elections are expected to be held in February-March 2022, to elect 117 members. The term of the current assembly elected in 2017 will expire on 27 March 2022 unless dissolved sooner.
Congress is the ruling party in the state with 77 seats while AAP is the main opposition with 20 seats to its name.
