He is known as the ‘disco king’ of India. Legendary musician Bappi Lahiri has been an integral part of the Indian Film Industry for almost five decades now. The veteran singer has not just lent his voice for Hindi films but across various regional films. Some of his popular songs have been recreated in recent times. And that in itself speaks of his chartbuster tracks being relevant today. Times Now Digital recently had an opportunity to interview the legend.

In an exclusive interview with us, Bappi Lahiri opened up about his phenomenal musical journey, the significance of gold in his life, and more. Looking at his almost five-decade-long journey in retrospect, the legendary singer feels nothing but grateful.

Right from singing for Dilip Kumar, Dev Anand to Varun Dhawan and Tiger Shroff, the iconic singer said his journey has been very long. “I want to thank God. Bas aashirvaad chahiye aise ki hum kaaam karte rahe (I want blessings from God that I keep working).Fans se prayers chahiye, fans ki prayers, kyunki vahi bohot badi cheez hai (I need prayers from fans because their prayer is the biggest thing). Main koshish karte rehta hu, bas ye journey hai vo kaamyab rakhe. Kaamyab rakhne ke liye koshish karta hu,” he said.

When we asked about the significance of gold in his life, the veteran singer revealed that his mother first gave him a gold chain and later his wife Chitrani Lahiri gave him the gold locket of Lord Ganesha. And looking at both, he found gold to be lucky for him.

“Gold is my lucky charm, main baar baar bolte rehta hu. Abhi ye trademark hogaya hai all over the world – Bappi means Gold. Main agar gold chupa ke rakhta hu toh kuch log puchte hai – Are you Bappi Lahiri? I say yes. (Then they ask)- ‘Where is your gold?’ Gold is my pehchaan, Gold is very luck for me” quipped the man with a golden touch.

Before signing off, the disco king of India expressed that he feels that the trend of disco tracks should be back in Bollywood but only if a story demands. At the same time, he feels disco beats will always stay. “Jo beat vo toh rahega hi, koi bhi gaana boliye. (Singing) Yaar bina chain kaha re, ye jo beats hai vo jaayega nahi (These beats will never go). Because beat mein public khush hota hai and they dance. Bas main chahta hu beats sada rahe. Disco beats (I only wish that disco beats stay forever),” he said while signing off.
