Bollywood singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya is as well known for his melodious renditions of popular numbers as he is for his controversial remarks. The singer who won the Filmfare Best Male Playback Award for the Yes Boss song Main Koi Aisa Geet Gaaon in 1998 voiced a number of songs picturized on Shah Rukh Khan, but the two parted ways when Abhijeet expressed disappointment of being listed last of the singers in the end credits of Main Hoon Na and again in Om Shanti Om.
Recently during a Facebook Live session, Abhijeet opened up on his equation with Shah Rukh Khan, his opinion on film music and made a shocking revelation about Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar.
In conversation with India.com, the singer opined how his songs turned a few actors into stars. Abhijeet mentioned Akshay Kumar and veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty and said that his songs made Akshay Kumar a star. The singer added that when Akshay was launched, he was not a star but rather known as ‘Gareebo Ka Mithun Chakraborty’ like how Mithun was known as ‘Gareebo Ka Amitabh Bachchan’.
“Music is so powerful that it can turn an actor into a star whether it’s Dev Anand, Raj Kapoor, or Rajesh Khanna. Akshay became a star after Khiladi (1992 film for which Abhijeet had sung many popular songs including Waada Raha Sanam), and all his movies were titled as Khiladi later. My voice has suited them all. These are the actors who weren’t stars before but my songs turned them into stars”, he stated
Abhijeet also spoke about how he is made to sing only for stars and not actors. According to him, no matter how good he sings, if the person is not a star, it is not worth anything. Calling SRK a star, he added that the actor has class when he speaks. Opening up about Suniel Shetty, Abhijeet added that the actor has a rough and tough appeal to him so every song picturised on him had to be aggressive and wild.
However, this is not the first controversy the actor faces. Earlier Twitter had suspended Bhattacharya’s account after he posted a series of offensive tweets, especially against women. A few days back, Abhijeet who recently appeared on Indian Idol 12 as a guest judge, and said that his absence from the reality show scene was because he was unwilling to share the stage with certain people.
