The 2021 French Women Singles final will see Czech Republic’s Barbora Krejcikova take on Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. Both players will be aiming to win their maiden Grand Slam. This is the maiden major final appearance for both players. 

Pavlyuchenkova entered the competition as the 31st seed and has surpassed expectations to reach the final. In the semi-final, she defeated Slovenia’s Tamara Zidanšek in 7-5, 6-3 in straight sets. She caused a major upset in the first round of the competition where she knocked out sixth seed Bianca Andreescu in a nail-biting three-set match.

Meanwhile, Barbora Krejcikova is unseeded and ranked 33rd in the world. In the semi-final, she played a three-setter against 17th seeded Maria Sakkari. The match went to the wire with Krejcikova winning the deciding set 9-7. 

Earlier, in the second round, she had knocked out the fifth seed Elina Svitolina in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. She has also knocked out 32nd seed Ekaterina Alexandrova and 24th seed Coco Gauff on her way to the final. She hadn’t dropped a set until semi-final.
