Much like several other women across the country, Vidya Balan, too, has faced gender bias in real life. The actress, whose upcoming film Sherni is creating the right kind of noise ahead of its release, opened up about the bias in an exclusive interview with Times Now Digital.

“I think all of us have faced gender bias and not just by the members of the opposite sex,” she said, adding, “Even I think we all tend to judge each other, box each other as human beings and it’s a little sharper for women or with women. Of course, I have faced gender bias,” said the actress, who is regarded as one of the pioneers of women’s voice in Hindi films.

Asked as to how she deals with the bias, the actress laughed and shared that it angers her. “I get angry… I get angry and then I just give them a piece of my mind. It happens much less now, but still,” she said.

The actress also recounted a dinner table incident when there were different reactions for her and her producer husband Siddharth Roy Kapur not knowing how to cook. “I remember people telling me over a dinner that Oh my god, you don’t know how to cook. I said, ‘No both Sidharth and I don’t know how to cook’. They said, ‘But you should know how to cook na…” she revealed.

Vidya said, “I wanted to say,” enacting a hitting scene, and added, “why should it be any different for Sidharth and me?”

The actress said all her life her mom would tell her that she must learn to cook. “I would say why the hell should I learn to cook, I will earn enough to hire a cook or marry a man who can cook,” she laughingly added.

The National Award-winning actress said that however, during the pandemic, she thought maybe she should have learnt some cooking.

“During the first lockdown, I did try my hand at cooking, but that was only to give in our live-in house help some help, some rest, because she was doing the cooking three times a day. So only to help her, because Sidharth was like I am not going to do anything to help her with her cooking. But I thought this was a good opportunity for me to just try and few things that I like, I tried them and that’s it,” she said.
