TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Monday said that the Trinamool Congress is aiming to spread its footprint in every nook and corner of the country and will come up with a plan in one month.
Addressing a press conference, Banerjee attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) saying that the TMC will take the BJP head-on in every state where it gets to gain a foothold.
Abhishek Banerjee, nephew of TMC supremo and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, on Saturday elevated as the party’s all India general secretary.
Hitting out at the BJP for its “nepotism” jab against the TMC, Banerjee said he would resign from the party if a bill is passed in Parliament allowing just one person from every family to join politics.
‘No intention to hold public office’
The Diamond Harbour MP further stated that he had no intention to hold any public office or ministerial post for the next 20 years, and would only want to work for his party’s development.
“We have received around one lakh emails from people across India thanking the TMC for defeating the BJP in assembly polls. We will take the BJP head-on in every state where the TMC builds its foundation,” PTI quoted the TMC leader as saying.
An intense war of words has ensued between the TMC and the BJP since the elections were announced in the state of West Bengal in which CM Mamata Banerjees’ party came out as the winner with a thumping majority in the recently concluded assembly polls.
The TMC won the election with a handsome 213 of the total 294 seats.
