Ahead of his Pakistan Super League (PSL) stint with Quetta Gladiators, former South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis compared the captaincy style of Sarfaraz Ahmed, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli. As per Plessis, who will be playing under Sarfaraz in PSL 6, he (Sarfaraz) is almost like Kohli while Dhoni is different.
Speaking to Cricket Pakistan, Plessis revealed that Dhoni is quiet and reserved while Sarfaraz, like Kohli, is passionate and keeps talking to players.
“Quite different… MS is quiet and reserved, does most of his things instinctively on the field. Sarfaraz is the opposite… almost like Virat. Always talking to the players, always to the bowlers, always very passionate about how he captains his team, and he shows it. So, there is no right and wrong way. These are just two different styles,” du Plessis told Cricket Pakistan
“He’s obviously been captain of Pakistan and has got the best out of players. I’ve always enjoyed playing under different leaders just to see how they go about their business because I also am pretty passionate about leadership myself so it’s nice for me to be able to see how he does things and offer my inputs if he wants to take it.”
A former national captain himself, Plessis has been Dhoni’s teammate for over a decade. He has been part of Chennai Super Kings since 2011 and also moved to Rising Pune Supergiant in IPL 2016 and 2017. He has never played under Kohli.
While it will be Plessis’ second PSL stint, it will be the first time that he will be playing under Sarfaraz, who is also a former national captain. Sarfaraz captained Pakistan to a victory in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy. He was sacked and dropped in 2019.
Meanwhile, the 2nd phase of PSL 6 is set to take place from June 9 to 24 in Abu Dhabi. With just 1 win from 5 matches, Gladiators are placed at the last spot in the points table.
