‘Congress focusing on pandemic premium’: Anurag Thakur attacks Punjab govt over ‘profiteering’ allegations

: Union Minister Anurag Thakur on Friday launched a scathing on the Punjab government over allegations of ‘vaccine profiteering’ by the Opposition saying that the Congres party is focussing more on ‘pandemic premium’ amid the COVID-19 crisis.

The Punjab government forced people to buy vaccines from private hospitals. The vaccine worth Rs 400 is being sold for Rs 3,120 for two doses. I want to ask Rahul Gandhi, will your corruption be over just by returning the money?” ANI quoted the BJP leader as saying.

Earlier today, the Punjab government withdrew the order of providing one-time limited vaccine doses to the 18-44 years age group population through private hospitals.

The decision was taken after Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal demanded a High Court-monitored probe into the alleged selling of COVID vaccine doses by the Punjab government to private hospitals for profit.

Meanwhile, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal alleged that the Congress government in the state has committed a scam by trading vaccines meant for the poor.

“What is the Punjab government’s intention? Do they want to save the lives of poor people or they want to earn profit from vaccines meant for the poor? It’s clear they committed a scam by taking money from private hospitals and traded vaccines meant for the poor,” she said.
