The idea to grow big in one’s career certainly kindle the interests of film artists including male and female artists. We have seen a number of supporting actors and comedians like Santhanam who attempted to transform and star as a lead actor.

Similarly, popular actresses in the Tamil Film Industry made efforts to take the next big step in their professional careers. Nayanthara is one of the actresses who succeeded in attaining a superstar status by playing solo roles while other notable actresses failed. We have compiled a list of actresses whose films as solo heroines did not make an impact on the audience.

Keerthy Suresh

Though Keerthy Suresh became the recipient of the National Film Award for her performance in the film Mahanati (2018). Her 2020 film Penguin directed by debutante Eashvar Karthic terribly failed. The film was produced by popular filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj under his Stone Bench Films with music by Santhosh Narayanan.

The film which was intended for theatrical release was released directly on Amazon Prime Video. Though the trailer of the film promised an engaging thriller, the audience was reportedly disappointed with the film.

Sneha

Actress Sneha who is known for her roles in numerous films such as Parthiban Kanavu, Pirivom Sandhippom, Hey Nee Romba Azhaga Irruka, Anandam, Pudhupettai featured as the lead star in the film Bavani (2011). Sneha played the role of an Assistant Commissioner of Police in the film. The actress worked hard to get into the shape of a built policewoman for her character in the film.

The film also starred Vivek, Sampath Raj, Kota Srinivasa Rao, Aryan, Yasmin Khan, Delhi Ganesh, Rajkapoor, Paravi Muniyamma, Ponnambalam, Manobala and many others in supporting roles. Bhavani was directed by G. Kicha with music by Dhina. The film was produced by G. Kicha and Shahul Hameed under K Films International. The revenge action drama did not work for the audience and failed at the box office.

Trisha

Trisha Krishnan is one of the most sought actresses in Tamil cinema who has acted in a number of blockbuster films such as Moundam Pesiyadhe, Ghilli, Saami, Lesa Lesa, Tirupaachi, Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya, Mankatha, Petta and many others. Trisha attained a palpable market value when compared to most of her peers.

The VTV actress tried to capitalise on her market value by acting in solo films which she began with Nayaki (2016). The horror comedy film revolved around Trisha’s central character Gayathri. The film was directed by Goverdhan Reddy with music by Raghu Kanche. The bilingual film (Tamil and Telugu) terribly failed at the box office.

Followed by Nayaki, Trisha starred in yet another solo film Mohini (2018) which also failed to impress the audience. Touted to supernatural horror-comedy, the film was directed by Ramana Madhesh under Marvel Worth Productions of S. Lakshman Kumar.

The 96 diva’s third solo film Paramapadham Vilayattu directed by debutante K Thirugnanam (2021) was released directly on Disney Plus Hotstar. Like the two other films, this one also failed to impress the audience.
