Following the Indian Medical Association’s (IMA’s) legal notice to Baba Ramdev over his alleged statements over allopathy and “defaming” scientific medicine, Patanjali Yogpeeth Trust has refuted allegations that the yoga guru has misled people by making “unlearned” statements against allopathy and defamed scientific medicine.
Ramdev was reading out a WhatsApp forwarded message in the video that has gone viral on social media, the Haridwar-based Trust issued a statement. “It is clarified that the truncated version of the video is totally out of context of what is sought to be conveyed by Swami jee.”
“He was reading out a forwarded WhatsApp message received by him and various other members who were participating in the event,” said Patanjali Yogpeeth Trust.
“Ramdev has utmost regards for doctors and support staff who have been working day and night during such a challenging time of the pandemic,” it added.
IMA demands action against Ramdev’s alleged remarks on allopathy
The IMA has demanded that the “Union Health Minister either accept the accusation and dissolve modern medical facility or prosecute him and book him under Epidemic Diseases Act.”
“IMA brings to the notice of our Hon. Health minister, a video circulating in social media portraying, the celebrated Yoga Guruji saying that ‘modern allopathy ek aisi stupid aur diwaliya science hai’ (modern allopathy is a stupid and failed science),” it said.
“The Union health minister, who himself is a practising modern medicine allopathic postgraduate and head of this (health) ministry, should either accept the challenge and accusation of this gentleman and dissolve the modern medical facility or boldly face and prosecute the person for his words of arson on the sovereignty of the country and book him under the Epidemic Act to save millions of people from such unscientific utterances,” the IMA said.
On Saturday, the Delhi Medical Association (DMA) has also lodged a police complaint against Ramdev. “We have received the complaint and enquiry is being conducted,” an officer said.
