Big setback for Asim Munir, Shehbaz Sharif? Balochistan declares separation from Pakistan, Baloch leaders announce ‘Independence Day’ date on…

Amid continuing unrest in Pakistan, Baloch leaders have announced that August 11 will be observed as the ‘Independence Day’ of Balochistan. The announcement comes as leaders advocating for an independent Balochistan have appealed for international support for their cause.

In a statement issued in the name of the Republic of Balochistan, people were urged to mark August 11 by displaying unity and celebrating what they describe as Balochistan’s Independence Day.

Appeal to hoist Balochistan flag

Baloch leader Mir Yar Baloch called on people to hoist the flag of a free Balochistan at their homes on August 11. He also urged supporters to display the flag in markets, shops and other public places as a symbol of solidarity.

He said August 11 would now be observed every year as Balochistan’s Independence Day. According to him, members of the Baloch diaspora living in different countries will also participate in the celebrations.

Leaders criticise Pakistan’s policies

Baloch leaders accused Pakistan of pursuing policies that they claim have had damaging consequences both within the country and beyond its borders.

They alleged that Pakistan’s actions, including its military operations in Balochistan, its role during the Soviet-Afghan war, its nuclear testing programme and its position on Kashmir, have contributed to instability and violence. According to the leaders, these policies have resulted in prolonged conflict and bloodshed.

Appeal for international backing

In its statement, the Republic of Balochistan said the region cannot achieve peace or prosperity while remaining part of Pakistan. It appealed to the international community to support the Baloch cause, arguing that such backing would help bring lasting peace to the region.

Why is August 11 being observed?

According to the Republic of Balochistan, the region was declared independent on August 11, 1947, before the Partition of India and the creation of Pakistan.

The group claims that the declaration received attention from international media at the time, including reports by All India Radio and The New York Times. Based on this historical claim, Baloch groups say they will continue to observe August 11 as Balochistan’s Independence Day, while Pakistan celebrates its Independence Day on August 14.
