US hits Iran’s Chabahar port after Trump’s attacks ‘will get much worse’ threat

The United States carried out fresh strikes on Iran’s southeastern port city of Chabahar on Thursday, as the two sides traded attacks for a second consecutive day following President Donald Trump’s declaration that the ceasefire was “over.”

Explosions were reported in various parts of Chabahar, with Iranian state media reporting widespread power outages across sections of the city. Residents reported hearing multiple blasts as emergency services rushed to the affected areas. This was the first strike on the strategically important port since the US-Iran ceasefire was announced in April.

According to US military officials, the operation targeted maritime infrastructure and military facilities that Washington claimed were being used by Iran to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

“US Central Command forces have started conducting additional strikes against Iran to further degrade their ability to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz,” CENTCOM, the US military’s Middle East command, wrote on X.

“The United States is holding Iran accountable for recent unjustified aggression against commercial shipping and civilian crews freely navigating a vital international waterway.”

Initial reports indicated that the strikes targeted piers, a maritime traffic control tower, and nearby military assets, while deliberately avoiding civilian port facilities and critical energy infrastructure.

The latest US attack came after three cargo ships were targeted in the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday, an incident Washington attributed to Iran. President Trump warned Tehran that further strikes would “get much worse” if it continued attacking commercial vessels in the key shipping lane.

Iran carried out a second consecutive day of retaliatory attacks on Kuwait and Bahrain, both of which host US military bases. The latest exchange has further escalated tensions in the region and undermined efforts to end the war.

‘I’m no. 1 on Iran’s kill list’: Trump

US President Donald Trump on Thursday claimed that Iran constantly poses a threat to him and that he was “number 1” on the country’s target list.

His remarks were made aboard Air Force One plane after the reporters he was speaking with were instructed to close the window blinds next to their seats.

When one of the reporters asked Trump the reason for this directive, he replied: “Because you are probably on a dangerous flight because of the sleazebags we have to deal with. These (Iranians) are sick people…,” Trump said.

Another media personnel asked Trump if he faces a threat from Iran, to which he said: “I have a threat all the time. I’m number one on their list, before you (addressing the reporters). But if I go, you go.” He also said the someday press may want to switch professions.
