Ahead of the court hearing in the alleged murder of Pune-based realtor Ketan Agarwal, accused Siya Goyal’s brother, Sahil Goyal, said that the family never appointed lawyer Aashutosh Srivastava to represent them. He also alleged that Srivastava may have taken Siya’s signature “by deceit” and claimed the family has submitted an affidavit in court regarding the matter. According to India Today, Sahil further accused the lawyer of threatening the family.
Bali Trip Was Cancelled After Passport Went Missing
Sahil confirmed that the family had planned a trip to Bali, but it had to be cancelled after Ketan’s passport went missing.
“Yes, the trip was planned. But it was cancelled because of the passport,” he said.
Police believe the missing passport is an important part of the alleged murder conspiracy. According to investigators, Siya had hidden Ketan’s passport before their scheduled June 6 Bali trip for a pre-wedding photoshoot. They suspect this was part of a larger plan that later led to Ketan’s death at Lohagad Fort on June 18.
When asked if he had spoken to Siya after her arrest, Sahil refused to comment and said the police would present the details in court.
Police Say Siya and Alleged Lover Planned the Murder
Siya Goyal (20) and her alleged lover Chetan Chaudhary (22) have been arrested for allegedly plotting Ketan Agarwal’s murder by pushing him off Lohagad Fort in Pune district.
According to police, Siya told investigators that she did not want to marry Ketan. She allegedly conspired with Chetan to kill him because she feared calling off the wedding would bring shame to her family.
Missing Passport Under Investigation
Police said Ketan and Siya, who got engaged in February, were supposed to travel to Bali with two others for a pre-wedding photoshoot. However, after reaching Mumbai Airport, Ketan realised his passport was missing, forcing the trip to be cancelled.
Investigators claim Siya stole and destroyed the passport to prevent the foreign trip.
The case gained more attention after the couple’s cab driver, Vaibhav Jadhav, told police that Siya asked him to stop on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. He claimed she opened the car’s boot and removed an unidentified item from her purse before they reached the airport.
Jadhav also said he was later asked to search the cab after Ketan discovered his passport was missing. Despite several searches by Ketan and Sahil, the passport could not be found.
Police Recreate the Crime Scene
On Sunday, Pune Rural Police took Siya to Lohagad Fort to recreate the alleged crime. Using a dummy, investigators asked her to demonstrate how Ketan was allegedly pushed off the fort. She also retraced the route she allegedly took that day.
Police said Chetan Chaudhary would also be taken to the fort separately for a similar reconstruction.
Investigators are examining the planning of the crime, the movements of both accused before and after the incident, their digital records and the motive behind the murder. Police also claim the duo deleted chats from their phones before June 18 and after the incident in an attempt to destroy evidence.
Siya’s Family Questioned, Residents Hold Candle March
As part of the investigation, police questioned Siya’s parents, Pravin and Puja Goyal, along with her brother Sahil. Her parents were questioned for nearly 12 hours on Saturday, while Sahil was interrogated for over 10 hours a day earlier.
Meanwhile, residents of the housing society in Gahunje, where the Agarwal family lives, held a candlelight march demanding justice for Ketan.
Ketan’s father, Vishal Agarwal, appealed to anyone present at Lohagad Fort on the day of the incident to come forward and help the investigation. He said the family would continue their fight until justice is served.
