The political temperature in Uttar Pradesh rose on Wednesday after Uttar Pradesh Minister and SBSP chief Om Prakash Rajbhar claimed that the opposition Samajwadi Party was heading towards a major split. He alleged that several party leaders were ready to join the BJP.
Rajbhar made the remarks in a post on X and later spoke to ANI, where he suggested that political developments in Uttar Pradesh could soon become bigger than the turmoil currently being seen in other opposition parties.
Rajbhar Draws Comparison With Maharashtra Political Crisis
Rajbhar’s comments come at a time when political attention is focused on Maharashtra, where Shiv Sena (UBT) is facing uncertainty following reports that some of its Lok Sabha MPs may be considering a move to the ruling Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde.
Drawing a comparison with the situation in Maharashtra, Rajbhar claimed that major political developments were now taking place within the Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh.
Claim Over Alleged Letter to Amit Shah
In a post on X, Rajbhar claimed that senior SP leader Ram Gopal Yadav had written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah. However, he did not provide any evidence or details regarding the alleged communication.
“A major split is going to happen in the Samajwadi Party. Ram Gopal Yadav has submitted a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah ji,” Rajbhar wrote.
Corruption Cases and Defection Claims
Rajbhar linked his allegations to alleged corruption cases involving the Samajwadi Party and claimed that ongoing investigations were creating pressure within the party. “Everyone in Uttar Pradesh knows who the mastermind behind the mining scam and Gomti River Front scam is. As the noose tightens, the SP is getting anxious,” he mentioned in the post.
He further alleged that many SP leaders were prepared to switch sides. “Forget Maharashtra and Bengal – the entire SP is sitting ready to join the BJP,” he added.
‘Don’t Keep Your Attention Only on Maharashtra’
Referring to the political discussions in Maharashtra, Rajbhar said, “Only when someone is ready to be bought, people will buy them. Don’t keep your attention only on Maharashtra; it is UP’s number now.”
Speaking again about the alleged letter, he claimed that Ram Gopal Yadav had approached the Home Minister regarding certain party leaders. “Didn’t you see that Ram Gopal ji has given a letter to Amit Shah ji and told him that these are the names, call them and take them with you, but keep us safe. Ram Gopal ji should tell what he wrote in his letter,” Rajbhar said.
Questions Raised Over Past Cases
The Uttar Pradesh minister also referred to previous cases involving the Samajwadi Party and questioned the outcomes of investigations. “CBI has named Akhilesh ji in a mining-related case. Did anyone go to jail in the Gomti Riverfront case?” he asked.
Rajbhar heads the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party, an ally of the BJP-led NDA in Uttar Pradesh. At the time of reporting, the Samajwadi Party had not issued any response to Rajbhar’s allegations.
