Good news for Delhi-NCR commuters: India’s first ‘Mini Metro’ coming to…, construction begins, to reduce traffic in…

India’s first 3-coach mini metro: Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block Golden Line corridor, 8.385 km, 8 stations, June 2029 target, connecting Greater Kailash, Chirag Dilli, Pushp Vihar.

DMRC has started construction on the Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block corridor, India’s first metro line designed specifically for 3-coach trains. The 8.385 km Golden Line corridor will have 8 stations and is expected to be operational by June 2029 as part of Delhi Metro Phase 4.

The corridor covers Lajpat Nagar, Andrews Ganj, Greater Kailash-1, Chirag Dilli, Pushpa Bhawan, Saket District Court, Pushp Vihar, and Saket G Block. Each 3-coach train will carry around 900 passengers per trip, with higher service frequency possible compared to longer train configurations on the same track.

Lajpat Nagar connects to the Pink Line and Violet Line. Chirag Dilli connects to the Magenta Line. Saket G Block will link to the proposed Aerocity to Tughlakabad corridor. These three interchanges give the corridor strong integration with Delhi Metro’s existing network across south and central Delhi.

Areas along the corridor including Greater Kailash, Saket, Pushp Vihar, Chirag Dilli, and Andrews Ganj are expected to see increased demand from residential buyers and commercial tenants. Select Citywalk, Saket District Centre, and Lajpat Nagar’s commercial markets are among the key destinations expected to gain from improved footfall and accessibility.

DMRC projects 60,000 to 80,000 daily passengers when the corridor opens, rising to over 1,20,000 by 2041. The 3-coach format allows higher train frequency at lower operating cost, making it a potential model for future metro corridors in dense urban areas where demand is strong but does not justify full-length trains.
