An intense explosion rocked Xing’an County of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, South China late Thursday morning resulting in the deaths of seven people and the injury of another 17. The explosion is reported to have happened at about 1:40 AM Thursday in a notice issued by the Xing’an police department. The explosion’s destructive magnitude instantly drew emergency forces of the region to the scene.

Four stages of emergency search and rescue operations completed

As soon as the news reached the emergency centers, key figures from the Party committees and municipal governments of Guilin City and Xing’an County arrived to oversee the situation. Emergency experts and rescue squads, including public security officers, fire brigades, medical teams, and emergency officials assembled on the spot to secure the area and conduct a search.

The emergency measures carried out included:

  • Focused rescue operations: In total, there were four stages of targeted search and rescue conducted by first responders among the debris.
  • Victims: Seven fatalities were confirmed, and 17 injured persons were pulled out and taken to hospital immediately.
  • Condition update: According to doctors’ reports, none of the victims admitted to hospital is in critical condition.

Those other members of the community who had suffered only minor injuries were immediately treated at the accident site and are currently under appropriate accommodation arrangements.

Ongoing investigation reveals non-involvement of gas pipeline leaks

Although there is still ongoing recovery and cleanup activities taking place, investigations into the cause of the accident are underway and are yet to pinpoint the specific cause of the deadly explosion.

According to a recent forensic examination carried out by the emergency response teams, it has been confirmed that pipeline gas leaks or similar accidents are not responsible for the deadly explosion. This is why public security authorities have initiated a full-scale criminal and technical investigation into the matter.
