TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee accused the BJP and the police of targeting Trinamool Congress leaders and workers in West Bengal. She claimed that attempts to intimidate party members would fail and would instead strengthen the party. Mamata said the Trinamool Congress would emerge stronger despite the challenges it is facing and would continue to stand by its grassroots supporters across the state.
Speaking to party workers, Mamata Banerjee rejected claims that TMC leaders were not standing by workers. She alleged that false information was being spread to create confusion within the party.
“TMC will become even stronger. Those who are claiming that party leaders are not standing by the workers are spreading false information. Complete lawlessness is prevailing. Even Hitler did not do such things. There are no words left to describe this situation. When language itself fails, it means oppression has crossed all limits,” she said.
The TMC chief further alleged that efforts were being made to weaken the party by pressuring elected representatives and trying to lure them away.
“You cannot weaken TMC by intimidating or bribing a few MLAs and MPs. In fact, this is only making the party stronger,” she added.
Mamata Banerjee reacts to attack on Abhishek Banerjee
Mamata Banerjee also spoke about the alleged attack on her nephew and TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee. Calling the incident shocking, she questioned the treatment meted out to a senior opposition leader.
“The way you assaulted the MP of the second-largest opposition party is shocking,” she said.
TMC chief alleges hospitals refused treatment
Continuing her criticism, Mamata alleged that hospitals were instructed not to provide treatment to Abhishek Banerjee after the incident.
“Doctors were called, but hospitals were allegedly instructed not to provide treatment. What kind of absurd and authoritarian conduct is this?” she asked.
She also targeted certain private hospitals and alleged that they had close links with influential business groups.
“The people at Belle Vue used to bow at my feet. You had close ties and dealings with the Birlas and the Lodhas, and you used to bow before them. Our Mayor took care of everything. Six months ago, we renewed Apollo’s licence,” she said.
Mamata targets former TMC leaders
Attacking former TMC leaders who have recently left the party, Mamata Banerjee said that some people enjoyed power for years but appeared to have reached an understanding with another party after losing their positions.
She said that the Trinamool Congress belongs to its workers, not its leaders, and stressed that the party would rebuild itself with the support of grassroots workers.
Referring to a recent rape case in Behala, Mamata questioned why there was no widespread protest over the incident.
“A rape has occurred in Behala. Why is no one protesting about it? TMC has not taken money from anyone. There may be some people who take advantage of situations, but those who others considered assets have left, and we are better off without them. We will rebuild the party anew. TMC is not for its leaders; it is for its workers. As long as the workers remain with us, that is what matters. For so long, some people enjoyed power, and now that we have lost, they immediately seem to have reached an understanding with another party,” she said.
