Actor-turned-politician Vijay announced the candidates for his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), for the 2026 Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, pairing the reveal with a clear message on clean governance and public-focused politics.
Vijay Announces Candidates, Sets Campaign Tone
Vijay said he will contest from Trichy East and Perambur in Chennai. Addressing supporters, he urged voters to support TVK’s ‘Whistle’ symbol, positioning his party as an alternative to corruption and misuse of public funds.
“I urge the people to vote for TVK and our ‘Whistle’ symbol. We are here only for the people, and always for the people,” he said.
Promise of Clean Governance
Making a direct appeal, Vijay stressed accountability if elected. He assured voters that his party would not misuse public money or engage in corrupt practices. He also outlined key priorities, including women’s safety, a drug-free Tamil Nadu, and strict law and order.
“I assure you, we will never act against the interests of the people of this state. This is my promise,” he said, asking for “one opportunity” to serve.
‘Candidates Reflect Common People’s Struggles’
During the candidate introduction, Vijay described his nominees as “true protectors of the people,” highlighting their ordinary backgrounds.
“Our candidates are not people with great wealth or power. They understand the struggles of the common man,” he said.
He also underlined that being an MLA requires more than experience, emphasizing integrity and responsibility. “An MLA is not just a representative; they are the voice of the people. I have personally selected each candidate after careful consideration,” he added.
Direct Challenge to Established Parties
Vijay framed the upcoming election as a significant contest, taking aim at established players, including the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam led by Chief Minister M K Stalin.
With a campaign focused on governance, welfare, and youth support, Vijay’s political entry is set to sharpen the contest in Tamil Nadu ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
