Namo Green Rail: India’s first hydrogen train to run between these two cities from…, check top speed, route, other details

ndia’s first hydrogen-powered train, called Namo Green Rail, is all set to begin its trial runs starting Monday. The train will travel between Jind and Sonipat and will make two to three trips every day as part of the testing phase.

However, there was a problem filling hydrogen gas in one of the engines, which caused a delay. The railways are being very careful to make sure everything works perfectly before the train is fully operational.

Earlier trial runs conducted in February

A team from RDSO (Research Design and Standards Organization), based in Lucknow, had already tested the train from February 25th to 28th.

  • On February 25th, the train left for Sonipat at 8:25 AM. It first ran on a diesel engine up to Pandu Pindara, and then switched to the hydrogen engine for the stretch between Pandu Pindara and Lalit Kheda. The train ran this route twice, reaching speeds of 60 to 70 km/h.
  • The train, on February 26th, traveled from Jind to Sonipat at 60 km/h and returned at a faster speed of 85 km/h.
  • A trial was done without water cans on February 26th.
  • The RDSO team wrapped up all testing on February 28th.

After the trial runs, the train was sent to Shakur Basti in Delhi for maintenance work. It returned to Jind on Saturday and is now ready for its next round of trial operations.

According to railway officials, the hydrogen train will continue running on the Jind-Sonipat track as a trial before its official inauguration. This marks a major step toward cleaner and greener rail travel in India.
