Good news for Delhi-NCR commuters! PM Modi launches India’s first ‘Ring Metro’, two new corridors; check key routes here

On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated two new corridors of the Delhi Metro, marking the launch of the country’s first ‘Ring Metro’ along with a major extension of the Magenta Line. The event highlights Delhi Metro’s continuous efforts to expand connectivity across the capital.

Majlis Park-Maujpur-Babarpur corridor: India’s first Ring Metro

The newly opened Majlis Park-Maujpur-Babarpur corridor on the Pink Line stretches approximately 12.3 km and includes eight elevated stations, connecting seamlessly with the existing Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar Pink Line.

With this addition, the Pink Line now spans about 71.56 km, completing India’s first fully operational circular metro route. Key stations along the corridor include Majlis Park, Burari, Jharoda Majra, Jagatpur-Wazirabad, Soorghat, Nanaksar-Sonia Vihar, Khajuri Khas, Bhajanpura, Yamuna Vihar and Maujpur-Babarpur.

The corridor also features a new bridge over the Yamuna and a double-decker viaduct designed to carry both metro tracks and a road flyover, showcasing advanced infrastructure integration.

Deepali Chowk-Majlis Park corridor: Magenta Line extension

The second corridor, connecting Deepali Chowk to Majlis Park, is an elevated extension of the Botanical Garden-Krishna Park Magenta Line, covering approximately 9.9 km with seven new stations: Deepali Chowk, Madhuban Chowk, Uttar Pitampura-Prashant Vihar, Haiderpur Village, Haiderpur Badli Mor, Bhalswa and Majlis Park.

Certain sections of this corridor rise to a height of 28.36 metres, making it one of the highest elevated stretches in the Delhi Metro network. With this expansion, the total length of the Magenta Line now reaches around 49 km, significantly improving connectivity for north Delhi commuters.

Foundation laid for three more metro corridors under Phase-V (A)

During the event, PM Modi also laid the foundation stone for three new corridors under Phase-V (A) of the Delhi Metro expansion plan:

  • Central Vista Corridor (Ramakrishna Ashram Marg-Indraprastha): A 9.913 km underground corridor with stations including Shivaji Stadium, Central Secretariat, India Gate, War Memorial–High Court, Baroda House, Bharat Mandapam and Indraprastha. This corridor aims to enhance access to key government offices and cultural landmarks in central Delhi.
  • Golden Line Extension (Aerocity-Indira Gandhi Domestic Airport Terminal 1): A 2.263 km underground stretch with one additional station, improving airport connectivity.
  • Golden Line Extension (Tughlakabad-Kalindi Kunj): A 3.9 km elevated corridor with new stations at Sarita Vihar Depot, Madanpur Khadar and Kalindi Kunj, offering better links for passengers travelling from Noida toward south Delhi and the airport.

Enhanced connectivity for Delhi commuters

With these new additions, Delhi Metro continues to expand its network, reducing travel times, decongesting roads and providing commuters with seamless access across residential, business and cultural hubs. The new corridors, including the circular Pink Line, are expected to ease movement across north and central Delhi while improving access to key landmarks and airport terminals.
