Has Iran chosen its new Supreme Leader? Mashhad imam makes BIG claim, says decision is already…

Uncertainty continues in Iran after the reported death of the country’s long-time Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on February 28. Political circles, religious leaders, and analysts are closely watching developments in Tehran as the country prepares for a major leadership transition. While there has been no official announcement yet, fresh claims from a senior cleric suggest that the decision about Iran’s next Supreme Leader may already have been made behind closed doors.

Claim From Mashhad Friday Prayer Leader

Ahmad Alamolhoda, the Friday prayer leader in the city of Mashhad, has claimed that the process of choosing Iran’s next Supreme Leader has already been completed. According to him, the Assembly of Experts has finished voting and selected the successor.

Speaking during Friday prayers, Alamolhoda dismissed reports suggesting that the Assembly had not reached a decision. He said the selection process had already been finalized and that the decision cannot be changed.

Alamolhoda also explained that under Iran’s constitution, once the Assembly of Experts makes its choice, even members of the Assembly cannot reverse that decision.

Has Iran Elected Their New Supreme Leader?

The key question now is whether Iran has already elected its new Supreme Leader but is waiting to make the announcement.

According to Alamolhoda, the decision is currently with Ayatollah Hosseini Bushehri, the head of the Assembly’s secretariat. He is responsible for officially announcing the new leader to the public.

If the cleric’s claim is correct, Iran could reveal the identity of its next Supreme Leader in the coming days. However, until an official statement is issued, uncertainty continues both inside Iran and internationally.

Interim Leadership Council Running the Country

Following Khamenei’s reported death, Iran formed an interim leadership council to manage state affairs.

The council includes:

  • President Masoud Pezeshkian
  • Chief Justice Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei
  • Senior cleric Alireza Arafi

This group is currently overseeing the country’s political and administrative matters until a permanent Supreme Leader is formally announced.

Assembly of Experts Meetings Disrupted

The Assembly of Experts, the body responsible for selecting Iran’s Supreme Leader, had scheduled an emergency meeting on Tuesday to discuss the succession.

However, the meeting reportedly ended early. Local reports said that Israeli airstrikes targeted the Assembly’s building in the city of Qom, forcing members to halt discussions before completing all formal procedures.

Despite the disruption, some members have hinted that a consensus may already exist.

Ayatollah Mohammad Mehdi Mirbagheri reportedly said that a “majority agreement” had been reached among members regarding the next Supreme Leader. He suggested that the ongoing war situation has delayed certain official steps, including the formal announcement.

Uncertainty Continues Until Official Announcement

Experts believe Iran’s political environment may remain uncertain until the government officially confirms the next Supreme Leader.

If Alamolhoda’s claims turn out to be accurate, Iran could soon announce the successor to Khamenei, marking one of the most significant political transitions in the country in decades. Until then, the situation remains closely watched both inside the country and around the world.
