PM Modi’s Malaysia visit rattles Pakistan, Asim Munir sends Navy chief to…

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Malaysia has once again exposed Pakistan’s unease. India and Malaysia discussed cooperation on terrorism, defence, and the Indo-Pacific region. During the visit, PM Modi delivered a strong message that there should be no double standards on terrorism.

Soon after, Pakistan hurriedly sent its Navy Chief, Admiral Naveed Ashraf, to Malaysia. This move is seen as Pakistan’s quick response to India’s growing diplomatic influence. Admiral Ashraf met his Malaysian counterpart, Admiral Tan Sri Zulhelmy bin Ithnain, on Sunday, the same day PM Modi was in Malaysia.

PM Modi Sends Strong Message on Terrorism

According to a statement from the Pakistan Navy, Admiral Ashraf discussed maritime security, operational cooperation, and capacity building with Malaysian naval leaders. Pakistan also claimed that it actively participates in regional maritime security missions and joint naval forces.

However, the timing is important. At the same time, PM Modi and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim issued a joint statement stressing “no double standards and no compromise on terrorism.” Without naming any country, Modi’s remarks were seen as a clear warning to nations that support cross-border terrorism—an indirect reference to Pakistan.

Areas of Cooperation Between India and Malaysia

In their joint statement, India and Malaysia agreed to strengthen cooperation against terrorism and international organized crime, including sharing information. Both leaders also reaffirmed their commitment to fighting terrorism through bilateral and multilateral platforms such as the United Nations and FATF.

India and Malaysia also decided to deepen ties in key sectors such as trade and investment, defence, energy, advanced manufacturing, and semiconductors. PM Modi highlighted that both countries are committed to peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
