India’s Ministry of External Affairs  summoned the Bangladesh High Commissioner, M Riaz Hamidullah, following a security threat to the Indian High Commission in Dhaka.

The summons came after National Citizen Party (NCP) leader Hasnat Abdullah made a public speech with anti-India remarks. Abdullah threatened to isolate the Seven Sisters states and offer support to Northeast separatists if Bangladesh faced instability. He is known for his strong anti-India stance.

This development came a day after Bangladesh’s Victory Day was celebrated with a cultural program at the Bangladesh Embassy in Delhi. High Commissioner M Riaz Hamidullah highlighted Bangladesh’s commitment to its people, especially the younger generation, and spoke about the country’s young population.

High Commissioner Hamidullah also stressed the importance of the Bangladesh-India relationship, noting their mutual benefits and focus on peace, prosperity, and regional security.

“The whole of Bangladesh, and all of us, are committed to fulfilling the aspirations of our people, especially the younger generation. We have a very young demography… We believe our relationship with India is in our shared interest. We have mutual interdependence… We are fully focused on prosperity, peace, and security in the region,” Hamidullah said.

The event also showcased Bangladesh’s culture and heritage, celebrating its liberation and independence, while highlighting its dedication to strengthening ties with India.

Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar extended greetings to Bangladesh on Bijoy Dibosh through a post on X. “Greetings to Foreign Affairs Adviser Mohammad Touhid Hossain, the Interim Government and the people of Bangladesh on Bijoy Dibosh,” he wrote.

The High Commission of India in Bangladesh said that on the 54th anniversary of Bangladesh’s Liberation War, eight Muktijoddhas and two serving officers of the Bangladesh Armed Forces arrived in India on December 14, 2025, to participate in Vijay Diwas celebrations in Kolkata. Similarly, eight Indian war veterans and two serving officers of the Indian Armed Forces reached Dhaka on December 15, for Bangladesh’s Victory Day celebrations.
