Donald Trump warns of possible U.S. military action against Nigeria over alleged killings of Christians

In a recent post on Truth Social, President Donald Trump issued warnings of possible military action against Nigeria, accusing the Nigerian government of allowing the ongoing killing of Christians in the country.

Trump declared that the United States would immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria if the same situation persisted and further hinted at a potential military intervention.

Trump wrote: “If the Nigerian government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing,’ to completely wipe out the Islamic terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities.”

Trump added to his fervent post that he had instructed the Defense Department—referred to as the ‘Department of War’—to prepare for possible action, warning that any U.S. attack would be ‘fast, vicious, and sweet.’

“I am hereby instructing our Department of War to prepare for possible action. If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet—just like the terrorist thugs attack our cherished Christians! WARNING: THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT BETTER MOVE FAST!”

The President’s comments are underlined by a renewed debate over religious violence and Christian persecution in Nigeria. The country remains sharply divided between a Muslim-majority North and a largely Christian South, with frequent clashes between ethnic and religious groups.

Trump had on Friday pointed out that Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria, blaming radical Islamists for the widespread killings. He further added that he is designating Nigeria as a country of particular concern over alleged religious persecution.

The U.S. President said that he has directed Congressman Riley Moore and House Appropriations Committee Chairman Tom Cole to look into the situation and report back to him.

Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu took to X to reply and stated that religious freedom and tolerance remain central to Nigeria’s identity.
