Trump Slaps 10% Tariff Increase on Canadian Goods Over ‘Fraud’ Ronald Reagan Ad

US President Donald Trump on Sunday (October 26, 2025) increased tariffs on Canada by 10 percent, in addition to the existing tariffs, citing a ‘fraudulent’ advertisement that used a clip of former American President Ronald Reagan. In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “Ronald Reagan LOVED Tariffs for purposes of National Security and the Economy, but Canada said he didn’t! Their (Canada’s) Advertisement was to be taken down, IMMEDIATELY, but they let it run last night during the World Series, knowing that it was a FRAUD.”

Trump said in the post while aboard Air Force One, “Because of their serious misrepresentation of the facts and hostile act, I am increasing the Tariff on Canada by 10% over and above what they are paying now. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” He, however, did not mention which products or sectors the additional 10% tariff will be imposed on.

Multiple products in Canada are already facing a 35% tariff. While steel and aluminum are charged a 50% tariff, energy products are subject to a 10% tariff. The US President further claimed Canada is hoping for a ‘rescue’ on tariffs by the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, he called for the advertisement to be taken down immediately.

“The sole purpose of this FRAUD was Canada’s hope that the United States Supreme Court will come to their “rescue” on Tariffs that they have used for years to hurt the United States. Now the United States can defend itself against high and overbearing Canadian Tariffs (and those from the rest of the World as well!),” he posted on X.

Trump Refuses To Meet Canadian PM Mark Carney

Earlier on Saturday, US President Donald Trump dismissed a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, shortly before leaving the White House to embark on a trip to Asia. On being asked by reporters about his intentions to hold talks with the Canadian PM, who will also be in Asia, Trump replied, “No, I don’t have any plan to.”

Trump ‘Terminates All Trade Negotiations With Canada’

Trump on Thursday terminated all trade negotiations with Canada over a ‘fake’ anti-tariff advertisement that showed a clip of former American President Ronald Reagan. In a post on Truth Social, the American President said, “The Ronald Reagan Foundation has just announced that Canada has fraudulently used an advertisement, which is FAKE, featuring Ronald Reagan speaking negatively about Tariffs. The ad was for $75,000.”

He mentioned that the Ontario Government solely intended to obstruct the decision of the US Supreme Court and other courts. “TARIFFS ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO THE NATIONAL SECURITY AND ECONOMY OF THE U.S.A. Based on their egregious behavior, ALL TRADE NEGOTIATIONS WITH CANADA ARE HEREBY TERMINATED. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DJT,” he said.
