‘I was trolled heavily’: Naga Vamsi opens up on War 2’s Telugu struggle, Admits trusting Yash Raj Films blindly

Telugu film producer and distributor Naga Vamsi has finally opened up about the disappointing box office performance of War 2. Speaking during a promotional interview for his upcoming film Mass Jathara starring Ravi Teja, Vamsi admitted that he erred by placing blind faith in Aditya Chopra and Yash Raj Films.

In a conversation with Gulte, he said, “Everyone makes mistakes, and the same happened with War 2. NTR garu and I trusted Aditya Chopra and Yash Raj Films. It didn’t work out, and I became the target after the film’s failure.”

He further added, “Aditya Chopra is one of the biggest producers in the country, and we believed in his vision, but War 2 ended up being a misfire.”

Vamsi also reflected on the trolling he faced for a movie he hadn’t even produced. “I was trolled heavily, and I had to bear the brunt of it. The only silver lining is that I was trolled for a film I didn’t even produce,” he concluded.

For the unversed, Vamsi had acquired the Telugu distribution rights for the Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, and Kiara Advani starrer for a significant amount. While the Hindi version found moderate success, earning Rs 214 crore, the Telugu version failed to make a mark, contributing only Rs 63 crore to the Rs 360 crore worldwide total. Despite pre-release appeals urging Telugu audiences to support the film, it could not match expectations in the region.

About War 2

War 2, a sequel to the 2019 blockbuster War, hit theatres on August 14, 2025. It brings back Hrithik Roshan as Agent Kabir after a six-year gap. NTR Jr. joins the franchise as Agent Vikram. Anil Kapoor and Ashutosh Rana are also seen in pivotal roles.
