Suspended advocate Rakesh Kishore’s first statement on CJI incident, says ‘I was hurt and…’

Suspended Advocate Rakesh Kishore, who attempted to hurl an object at Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud’s bench in the Supreme Court, has claimed he was acting out of “hurt” and not under the influence of alcohol. His statement came after the incident came to light and shocked everyone in the country. Following the incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to CJI Gavai and condemned the incident.

What did Rakesh Kishore say?

Kishore stated that he doesn’t regret the incident and that it was his reaction to Justice Gavai’s actions. “I was hurt. I was not inebriated, this was my reaction to his action. I am not fearful. I don’t regret what happened.” A PIL was filed in the Court of CJI on 16th Sept. The CJI mocked it and said – go and pray to the idol and tell it to restore its own head,” Kishore said.

He expressed his dissatisfaction over the Supreme Court’s functioning, criticising the passing of latest orders. “When Nupur Sharma’s matter came up before the Court, the Court said that she vitiated the atmosphere….When a matter related to our Sanatan Dharma comes up, SC passes such orders. Don’t provide relief to the petitioner, but don’t mock him either. I was hurt. I was not inebriated; this was my reaction to his action. I am not fearful. I don’t regret what happened,” he added.

In a disturbing incident, Kishore had attempted to throw a shoe at Chief Justice BR Gavai on Monday. The incident happened at the Chief Justice’s court, where the attempt was foiled by the security. Later while escorting him out of the court, he was heard saying ‘Sanatan ka apmaan nahi sahega,’ which means that the insult to Sanatan Dharma cannot be tolerated.
