Diljit Dosanjh breaks silence on Sardar Ji 3 controversy post Pahalgam attack: ‘Matches happened after the tragedy’

Actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh was earlier in the controversy due to his film ‘Sardar Ji 3’, also starring Pakistani actress Hania Aamir. The movie received backlash because of the involvement of Hania amid the tensions between India and Pakistan post the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor. The makers decided to release the film internationally as it was banned in India. At his recent concert in Malaysia, Diljit addressed the controversy and shared that the movie was shot before the tragic Pahalgam terror attack.

While addressing the controversy around ‘Sardar Ji 3’, Diljit said in Punjabi, “My film Sardaar Ji 3 was shot in February when the matches were being played. After that, the tragic Pahalgam terror attack happened. At that time, and even now, we have always prayed that the terrorists should receive strict punishment. I stand with my country. The matches have happened after the tragedy. There’s a lot of difference between this and my film. It was shot earlier, but the matches happened later.”

He added, “The national media tried their best to portray me as anti-national, but Punjabis and the Sikh community could never go against the nation.”

In an earlier interview with BBC Asian Network, Diljit revealed the reason of releasing ‘Sardar Ji 3’ despite backlash. He said, “Jab yeh film bani thi tab situation sab theek tha. We shot this in Feb and then everything was fine. Uske baad, bohut saari badi cheezein humare haath mein nahi hain. Toh producers ne decide kiya ki film obviously ab India mein toh nahi lagegi, toh overseas release karte hain. Toh producers ka bohut paisa laga hua hain aur jab yeh film bann rahi thi tab aisa kuch tha nahi.”

“They know there will be a loss because you’re removing an entire territory. Even when I signed the film, everything was fine. Now the situation is not in our hands. So if the producers want to release it abroad, I support them,” he added.

‘Sardaar Ji 3’ also stars Neeru Bajwa in the lead role with Manav Vij, Gulshan Grover, Jasmin Bajwa, and Sapna Pabbi in the pivotal roles.
