India successfully tests Agni-Prime Missile from rail-based mobile launcher

India successfully launched the Agni-Prime missile on Thursday. The missile, an advanced intermediate-range ballistic weapon, was fired from a rail-based mobile launcher. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh called the test “first-of-its-kind” and praised the innovation of the specially designed launcher.

The Defence minister further said that the success of the flight test has placed India among the selected nations that have developed a “canisterised launch system from an on-the-move rail network.”

“Congratulations to DRDO, Strategic Forces Command (SFC) and the Armed Forces on the successful test of the Intermediate Range Agni-Prime missile. This successful flight,” Singh said.

This launcher can move freely across the rail network without prior requirements, providing cross-country mobility, rapid reaction capability, and reduced visibility before launch.
