Ladakh Violence: BJP shares photos, videos of Congress Councillor, alleges he incited mob attack

BJP leader Amit Malviya  shared a few pictures and videos, claiming Congress was behind the clashes in Leh. He blamed Congress Councillor Phuntsog Stanzin Tsepag for rioting and being a part of the mob. In a post on X, Malviya wrote, “This man rioting in Ladakh is Phuntsog Stanzin Tsepag, Congress Councillor for Upper Leh Ward. He can be clearly seen instigating the mob and participating in violence that targeted the BJP office and the Hill Council.”

Violence erupted in Leh on Wednesday, September 24, when protesters took to the streets demanding statehood and inclusion under the Sixth Schedule. Tensions escalated when the demonstrators torched the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office and a CRPF van in Ladakh’s capital. At least four people were killed, and more than 70 were injured during the clashes, leading authorities to impose a curfew in Leh.

The violence in Ladakh played out against the backdrop of the upcoming meeting with the Central government. Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who had again been on a hunger strike in the Union Territory for 15 days, was part of the protest.

In a series of posts on Wednesday night, the Centre blamed climate activist Sonam Wangchuk for inciting the mob through his ‘provocative statements’. In a post on X, the Ministry of Home Affairs claimed, “It is clear that the mob was incited by Shri Sonam Wangchuk through his provocative statements. Incidentally, amidst these violent developments, he broke his fast and left for his village in an ambulance without making serious efforts to control the situation.” Meanwhile, the Government urged the people to refrain from circulating old and provocative videos on social media platforms.
