Bomb Threat Via Email Received At Army Base In Kannur, Kerala

A bomb threat was received via email at the Defence Security Corps (DSC) Centre in Kannur on Tuesday, officials have confirmed. The threat prompted a swift response from local authorities, who have cordoned off the area to conduct a thorough search.

Earlier, a threat call made from an anonymous email stating that bombs have been placed in three places in Coimbatore, including the court complex, Jawans Bhawan, and Judiciary Academy, was found to be a hoax on Tuesday. The threat led to a quick and thorough search by security organizations, leading to a momentary panic.

Massive Search Operation On

Once they received the information, the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) initiated a large-scale search operation. The teams thoroughly searched the campus of the Coimbatore court complex, Jawans Bhawan, and the Coimbatore Judiciary Academy. Officials subsequently reported that no explosive devices were discovered at any of the sites.

This is the third such hoax threat to institutions in Coimbatore this month.

A Spate Of Similar Threats Across India

The Coimbatore incident is one of a series of recent attempts at intimidating prominent public buildings all over the country through identical email threats. Last week, an anonymous bomb threat was received by the Madras High Court through its official email ID on September 19, which proved to be a hoax as well. A week before that, on September 12, the Bombay High Court and the Delhi High Court also got similar threats through an email, which created panic and suspended court hearings before also being concluded as hoaxes.

Investigation To Trace Threat Sources

The authorities are considering these incidents seriously, and an investigation is underway to track down the source of the anonymous emails. The police officials are striving to determine the authenticity of the threats and trace the perpetrators who sent the hoax messages.
