Delhi Police have registered an FIR against the Congress party over an AI-generated video featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother Heeraben Modi.
The case was filed under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, following a complaint by BJP Delhi Election Cell Convenor Sanket Gupta.
The FIR pertains to a September 10 post from the official handle of the Congress Bihar unit on platform X, which allegedly shared the contentious AI-generated video.
“An FIR has been registered by Delhi Police in the matter of the circulation of Al/Deepfake video “Maligning and defaming image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and His Late mother- gross violation of law, morality, and Women’s dignity” through its official social media handle INC Bihar on platform X (formerly Twitter) on September 10, under sections 18(2), 336(3), 336(4), 340(2), 352, 356(2) and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, based on the complaint filed by BJP Delhi Election Cell Convenor Sanket Gupta against Indian National Congress,” ANI reported.
Congress AI-Generated Video
A controversy erupted after the Bihar Congress on September 10 shared an AI-generated video on social media that appeared to show look-alikes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother, Heeraben Modi. The video carried a caption in Hindi that translated to “Mother appears in Sahab’s dreams.”
The 36-second clip, marked “AI-generated,” shows a dream sequence where a character resembling Prime Minister Modi is seen with his late mother speaking to him. Though the Congress has not explained the purpose of the video, it has triggered strong criticism from the BJP and JD(U), who called it “cheap politics” and a sign of “frustration and decline in values.”
BJP Objects To The AI-Generated Video
The BJP strongly objected to the post, calling it “disgusting” and an insult not just to Prime Minister Modi’s mother but to all mothers and sisters of the country. The party said Congress had crossed all limits of political decency.
BJP slammed the video, accusing Congress of continuing to target the late Heeraben Modi. “First, abusive slogans were shouted. Now, a video has been made to insult her. Congress should be ashamed of how low it is willing to go,” the party said in a post on X.
Earlier Controversy
The controversy came just days after offensive slogans about Prime Minister Modi’s mother were raised from a Congress-RJD stage during Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ rally in Bihar’s Darbhanga.
With elections in Bihar approaching, the BJP has demanded an apology and strict action against those behind the post, saying it was a deliberate attempt to hurt public sentiments for political gain.
