Punjab Flood Crisis: PM Modi To Visit State On Sept 9, Review Relief And Meet Affected Farmers

As Punjab grapples with the most severe flood crisis in its history, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the state on September 9. He is scheduled to meet farmers and communities in flood-affected areas, take stock of the damage caused by the floods, and monitor relief and rehabilitation work.

According to government sources, the central government has resolved not to leave Punjab alone in this difficult time. The Prime Minister’s visit will focus on immediate and long-term recovery measures, including issues such as cleaning of silt from fields, disease prevention, and safe disposal of dead animals after the flood waters recede.

“Relief and rehabilitation work will be carried out through collective efforts of the central and state governments, so that these measures can be properly implemented at the ground level,” sources said.

The Prime Minister is expected to stress the need to strengthen dams located along the Sutlej, Beas, Ravi and Ghaggar rivers. These dams have become weak over the years due to illegal mining and lack of proper maintenance. This issue will be part of the key discussions during his visit as the state tries to prepare for further floods and recover from the current crisis.

As the rehabilitation work is underway, all eyes will be on the Prime Minister’s visit as it will prove to be an important step in repairing the damage caused by the floods and rebuilding Punjab.
