Lord Swraj Paul, founder of the Caparo Group, died in London at the age of 94. He was an active member of the Indian community in the UK and regularly attended the House of Lords despite his physical frailty. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow at the demise of NRI industrialist Swaraj Paul and paid tributes to his invaluable legacy of philanthropy and public service.

Lord Paul was born in Jalandhar and moved to the UK in the 1960s for his younger daughter Ambika’s cancer treatment. After his daughter passed away at the age of four, he founded the Ambika Paul Foundation, which has gone on to donate crores of rupees in the field of education and health for the betterment of children and youth.

Even after the death of his son Angad Paul in 2015 and wife Aruna in 2022, he continued his philanthropic work in their memory.
