ENG Vs IND: Gautam Gambhir Breaks Silence On Jasprit Bumrah’s Availability In 5th Test, Makes Strong Statement On India’s Transition Phase

India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir showed confidence in India’s young Test team and applauded their effort in the fourth Test. England were the winning favourites and many believed that India had already lost the 4th Test when Ben Stokes and co scored 669 runs but India didn’t succumb under pressure and put up a strong fightback. Both all-rounders – Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar – notched up their centuries and led the match towards a draw.

In the post-match press conference, Gautam Gambhir gave strong replies to all the questions put forward, mentioned India’s transition phase, gave an update on Jasprit Bumrah and commented on England calling a draw in 4th Test while Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar were about to reach their centuries.

Gautam Gambhir On India’s Transition Phase

When the reporter asked about India’s transition phase, Gambhir quickly answered and mentioned that he wouldn’t call it a transition, rather inexperience.

“Would you use that word transition? But again, I don’t believe in something like that because it’s still an Indian team. And this is the best A team that is going to represent and that are there in the dressing room. And more importantly, it’s not the transition, it’s just a little bit of inexperience.”

India Leads Fourth Test Towards Draw

“But the most important thing is that these guys are going to learn a lot from what they did today. Because being under pressure, batting 5 sessions, it’s never easy on day 5 of the wicket against an attack like England. And then coming out with a draw, only losing 4 wickets. Got to give credit to the guys, the kind of characters they’ve shown.”

Gambhir On Whether Jasprit Bumrah Will Play The Next Test Or Not

“No decision has been made whether Jasprit Bumrah will play in the last test match or not. Ultimately, whoever plays, whether they play or not, they will try and do the job for the country. That only inexperience was the only issue with this team.”

“Gautam, England’s fielders didn’t seem very happy when India carried on batting at the end. After they’d offered a handshake.” the reporter asked

“What did you make of their reaction? If someone is batting on 90 and the other one is batting on 85. Don’t they deserve a 100? Would they have walked off? If someone from England’s side would have been batting on 90 or 85. If someone had the opportunity to get his first test 100. Wouldn’t you allow him to do it? They weathered the storm. It’s up to them. If they want to play that way. That’s up to them. I’ve got nothing more to say. I think both those guys deserved a 100.”
