‘Fanaticism, Terrorism And Borrowed Finances’: India Blasts Pakistan At UN

India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, on Wednesday delivered a scathing rebuke of Islamabad during the UNSC’s high-level open debate in New York. He ripped into Pakistan, sharply criticizing the country for fostering cross-border terrorism as well as mismanaging its economy. Parvathaneni told the UN Security Council, “There should also be a serious cost to states who violate the spirit of good neighbourliness and international relations by fomenting cross-border terrorism.”

Additionally, he asserted India’s position firmly and issued a clear message while referring to the deadly Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025, which claimed 26 lives. He recalled, “India launched Operation Sindoor targeting terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), which was focused, measured, and non-escalatory in nature. On achieving its primary objectives, a cessation of military activities was directly concluded at the request of Pakistan…”The hostilities, which began on May 7, between two nuclear-armed neighbours, ended three days later after India clarified that it agreed to a ceasefire at Pakistan’s direct request. This comes after US President Donald Trump publicly claimed that he helped broker a peace between the countries.

While speaking at the UNSC’s high-level open debate on ‘Promoting International Peace and Security through Multilateralism and Peaceful Settlement of Disputes’, Harish unscored “I am also constrained to respond to the remarks made by the representative of Pakistan. The Indian Subcontinent offers a stark contrast in terms of progress, prosperity and development models. On the one hand, there is India, which is a mature democracy, a surging economy and a pluralistic and inclusive society. At the other extreme is Pakistan, steeped in fanaticism and terrorism, and a serial borrower from the IMF.”

Contending Pakistan’s indulgence in unacceptable practices, the Ambassador said, “One of them is zero tolerance for terrorism. It ill behoves a member of the Council to offer homilies while indulging in practices that are unacceptable to the international community.” He further reiterated that there cannot be one standard approach to dispute resolution.
