The former England skipper and commentator Michael Vaughan thinks that Team India’s new leaders with the likes of Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Rishabh Pant must take the mantle together which the former India skipper Virat Kohli handed single-handedly.

Vaughan also acknowledged Indian batter’s strong performances in the ongoing Test series but also warned about the replacement with a stature of Virat Kohli.

“They (Gill, Jaiswal and Pant) now have to drag this Indian Test team forward like Virat did single-handedly,” Vaughan said in an interview with PTI. “There’s a group of them that I see that play the game that right way.”

Vaughan also appreciated Kohli’s legacy which brought Team India’s resurgence in Test cricket and dominance.

“If they can be anywhere near as close as what he brought to the Test match team – the energy and number – one status for such a long period of time – they’ll have done a decent job.”

The former England skipper also said about the transition period after Virat and Rohit’s retirement. He said that the transition is smooth but have to be careful and not to underestimate.

“You can’t move on so suddenly after two legends have retired or moved out of the team”, Vaughan said.

Vaughan hopes Gill To emulate Kohli’s aggression also believes Team India chances for the WTC title.

“With the talent India has, I wouldn’t be worried. But I would want my Test team to be more consistent and competitive in all conditions”.
